Radon Removal, Radon Mitigation, or Radon Abatement?

Do I need Radon Removal Services or Radon Mitigation?

If you need to lower your radon gas level, you need both. Fortunately, the terms used are interchangeable by the general public. Radon removal is the same as radon mitigation, which is the same as radon abatement.

Technically, abatement is “the act or state of abating or the state of being abated; reduction; decrease; alleviation; mitigation.” So, in the very dictionary definition, radon abatement can be similarly described as radon reduction, radon alleviation, and the more popular radon mitigation phrases. But what about radon removal? This definition does not indicate full “removal” as an appropriate synonym.

Is Radon Removal Possible?

Yes. Radon removal is possible. Radon-containing air can be removed through fans that bypass the entrance point of the gas. For example, in sub slab depressurization systems, a fan and a PVC pipe pull air from below a basement and blow the radon-contaminated air (radon gas) above your roof. By creating the vacuum under the basement floor, there is literally no underground air (the source of the radon gas) entering the home when the fan is running.
